【摘要】:Fan-poweredradonreductionsystemsbuiltintonewresidentialbuildingsaccordingtothispracticearelikelytoreduceelevatedindoorradonlevels,wheresoil-gasisthesourceofradon,tobelow2.0picocuriesperlitre(pCi/L)(75becquerelsofradonpercubicmetre(Bq/m3))inoccupiablespaces.Passiveradonreductionsystemsdonotalwaysreducesuchindoorradonconcentrationstobelow2.0picocuriesperlitre(pCi/L)(75becquerelsofradonpercubicmetre(Bq/m3))inoccupiablespaces.Whenapassivesystem,builtaccordingtothispractice,doesnotachieveacceptableradonconcentrations,thatsystemshouldbeconvertedtofan-poweredoperationtosignificantlyimproveitsperformance.Exceptionsx2014;Newresidentialbuildingsbuiltonexpansivesoilandkarstmayrequireadditionalmeasures,notincludedinthispractice,toachieveacceptableradonreduction.Considerconsultingwithasoil/geotechnicalspecialist,aqualifiedfoundationstructuralengineerandcontactingthestatex2019;sradoninairspecialistforup-to-dateinformationaboutconstructionmethods.NamesofyourstateradonspecialistareavailablefromtheU.S.EPAwebsite(http://www.epa.gov/radon).Note18212;Residencesusingprivatewellscanhaveelevatedindoorradonconcentrationsduetoradonthatout-gassesfromthewaterusedindoors,likewaterusedtoshower(7).Considercontactingyourstatex2019;sradonspecialistforup-to-dateinformationonavailablemethodsforremovingradonfromprivatewellwater.Allsoildepressurizationradonreductionmethodsrequireagas-permeablelayerwhichcanbedepressurized.Thegas-permeablelayerispositionedunderthebuildingx2019;ssealedgroundcover.Inthecaseoftheactivesoildepressurizationsystem,aradonfanpullsairuptheventstacktodepressurizethegas-permeablelayer.Inthecaseofapassivesoildepressurizationsystem,whenairintheventstackiswarmerthanthatoutdoors,thewarmerairrisesinthestackcausingthegas-permeablelayertobedepressurized.Thepassivesystemdepressurizesthegas-permeablelayerintermittently;thefan-poweredsystemdepressurizesthegas-permeablelayercontinuously.Theperformanceofgas-permeablelayersdependsontheirdesign;see6.4.1.3.Aradonreductionsystemthatoperatespassivelyrequiresthemostefficientgas-permeablelayer.U.S.EPArecommendedactionlevelconcerningindoorradonstatesthattheradonconcentrationshouldalwaysbereducedifitis4picocuriesperlitre(pCi/L)(150becquerelsofradonpercubicmetre(Bq/m3))oraboveinoccupiablespaces.AccordingtoU.S.EPAthereisalsoreducedriskwhenradonconcentrationsinindoorairareloweredtobelow2.0picocuriesperlitre(pCi/L)(75becquerelsofradonpercubicmetre(Bq/m3))inoccupiablespaces(4).Significantbenefitisobtainedfromreducingindoorradonconcentrationstobelow4pCi/L(150Bq/m3).AccordingtotheU.S.EPAx2019;sriskassessment(8),about62outof1000peoplewhosmokewilldiefromalifetimex2019;saverageradonexposureof4pCi/L(150Bq/m3);forpeoplewhoneversmokedabout7outof1000willpeoplediefromthesamelifetimeexposure.Smokersx2019;lifetimeriskofdeathfromlungcancerisreducedbyabouthalf(50%)whentheiraverageradonexposureisreducedfrom4to2pCi/L(150to75Bq/m3);theirriskisreducedbyabouttwo-thirds(67%)whentheirexposureisreducedfrom4......
